SPLIT DIAMONDS, BORDERS & FRAMES
1982 - 1987
In this group of paintings, I begin to abandon the idea of wrapping bands around the sides. I become interested in borders. The grid is present within the layers themselves and the layers pile up toward the viewer. The small diamond shapes are often painted in two colors which create a rhythm within the painting.
BORDERS AND FRAMES
During the 1980’s my interest in pattern and repetition led me to explore images that had surrounding borders or frames. In some paintings, I used canvas and fabric to collage elements onto the surface. I made many paper pieces that were combinations of specialty papers and painted elements. My paintings were influenced by these collages. I begin to introduce hand drawn elements.
